Reimagining of Murtagh and Thorn when he reappears in Eldest. For my book character project - I decided to pick Murtagh since I was utterly obsessed with him as a teenager.
I'm so proud of this, happy days.
As a quick edit - some people have pointed out that he's not got Za'roc on him - I painted this wanting to capture the 'big reveal' in Eldest when he first gets off Thorn before slapping Eragon about, so he would have just had his standard sword at that point. Hope that clears things up!
If ever a film about eldest was made. This would be the best advertisement/DVD picture. I love how you managed to capture the heat of rage and battle, but still keep the essence of a forlorn fate that was not chosen but forced upon him. It's incredible
This is a very thoughtful depiction of Murtagh. I like how almost sinister you make the background with a touch of light over the top of his head, as if there is "hope" for him despite everything. He has blood all over himself and his sword with a ragged red cape as though he were a Spawn. Murtagh really is like a spawn, having redeemed himself from like a tortured hell of his childhood. He is still a tortured character and I like how you depict that in his bloodiness and shadowed face. Yet, he is a powerful Dragon Rider and you show that in his confident stance. You are true to your subject of Murtagh, even though Thorn is also in the drawing. Thorn's presence is a dynamic background to the Murtagh subject and Thorn looks weary and battered as though fresh from a battle. So, your Thorn matches the bloodiness of Murtagh. Excellent job.
Congratulations.
